Mauritius Herderson, he used to be a farmboy, but his parents perished in a raid. The local priest dropped him off at the nearest monastery, where he spent the next ten years training in the art of the kensei, until he got on the nerves of the abbot for the last time (he's an active if slow one), and was sent out on the time-honoured tradition of not bothering the abbot and proving himself worthy as a monk. 

That was eight years ago and nothing he has done has filled him with the feeling of accomplishment that would indicate success in his own mind. 

He wears a practical variant of the robes of the order, as well as he could have them made outside once his original ones were threadbare/damaged.
